Dutch Midwifery
The Dutch midwife is a highly trained, responsible and accountable professional who works in partnership with the gynecologist to give necessary support, care and advice during a normal, healthy pregnancy, for labour and birth and the immediate postpartum period.
What is Caseload?
A caseload midwife simply has a smaller amount of women under her care so she can give more time and individual care. This means longer appointments with time for all your questions and building trust. The practice is limited to one or two midwives for more personal care.
Specialised in Expat Support
As Dutch trained British midwives Elinor & Martha provide midwifery care to both Dutch and English speaking women within the Dutch system. They have a particular focus on the needs of international women who are here for a short time or those who have made the The Netherlands their home.
Midwifery in The Netherlands
A midwife has an important task in health counseling and education, not only for the woman, but also within the family and the community. This work involves antenatal education and extends to women's health, sexual or reproductive health care. A midwife practices in any setting including home, hospitals and birth centers.
Our midwifery care is women-centred, includes preventative measures, the promotion of healthy pregnancies and normal birth, detection of complications in mother and child and holistic medical care. Where required we liase with and refer to a gynaecologist for further diagnostics and are trained in the carrying out of emergency measures.
