Elinor Abramson & Martha Montagne
As Dutch trained British midwives Elinor & Martha provide midwifery care to both Dutch and English speaking women within the Dutch system, with particular focus on the needs of international women having a baby in the Netherlands.
What do midwives do?
A midwife is a person who has successfully completed the prescribed course of studies in midwifery and has acquired the required qualifications to be registered and/or legally licensed to practice midwifery.
The midwife is recognized as a highly trained, responsible and accountable professional who works in partnership with the gynecologist to give the necessary support, care and advice during pregnancy, labour and the postpartum period. This care includes preventative measures, the promotion of normal birth, the detection of complications in mother and child, the accessing of medical care or other appropriate assistance and the carrying out of emergency measures.
The midwife has an important task in health counseling and education, not only for the woman, but also within the family and the community. This work should involve antenatal education and preparation for parenthood and may extend to women's health, sexual or reproductive health care. A midwife may practice in any setting including home, hospitals and birth centers.

Happy client reviews
As an expat in the Netherlands, feeling trust and safety with the Dutch health system is a challenge! Even more, during pregnancy that hormones make you feel vulnerable.
In our case, and after a traumatic first labor, we were feeling that we needed more dedicated care, more careful and frequent checks, discussing all scenarios and grasping the whole picture.
Elinor provided all the above and even more!

It was the personal touch for me. It wasn’t just about taking my vitals and the medical process but about my emotions, my well being. She was present in every conversation. I didn’t feel like I was just another patient on her schedule for the day. She talked about whatever I needed to talk about.

I don’t know if I could have gone through having this baby as well as I did without these midwives consistent support and advice. It was like having my personal cheerleaders and a family member all wrapped up in one. The after delivery care was also on point.
If you are thinking about having a baby in the Netherlands, I definitely recommend this midwife practice. They are truly awesome.

Elinor is a caring, evidence-based midwife with a great combination of warmth and knowledge. She handled multiple pregnancies of mine, including a miscarriage, and was able to make me feel engaged and respected throughout multiple deviations along our path to parenthood. Even with a serious complication during birth, we felt like we were able to make informed decisions that were respected by all involved. Recovery was smoother and faster thanks to her mindful care.

Elinor is not an ordinary midwife, she is following her passion and her love for her job spills out from every fibre of her being. I had a wonderful and positive birth experience because of her and I believe it's every woman's right to feel like that. Of course birth is unpredictable but trust me - you increase your chances of a positive experience if you have Elinor by your side.
